This antibody is specific for amyloid beta protein-bound GM1.

The original antibody was generated and screened in vitro via ELISA and Thioflavin T (ThT) fluorescence measurements for its ability to bind to GAbeta and inhibit Abeta polymerization. It was assessed in three polymerization systems: (1) polymerization initiated by adding Abeta fibril fragment, (2) Abeta40 polymerization initiated from GAbeta40, and (3) Abeta42 polymerization initiated from GAbeta42. It showed stronger inhibitory activity, particularly in Abeta40 and Abeta42 polymerization systems, and was found to influence fibril length by promoting fibril shortening or fragmentation rather than just preventing elongation (US7741448B2).
