- Scientific DescriptionEncoded by ANXA1 gene, Annexin A1 is a Ca2+-dependent membrane-localized protein that binds phospholipids. This protein inhibits phospholipase A2, which is required for the biosynthesis of the potent mediators of inflammation, prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Thus, Annexin A1 plays important roles in the innate immune response as effector of glucocorticoid-mediated responses and regulator of the inflammatory process, promoting resolution of inflammation and wound healing. It also contributes to the adaptive immune response by enhancing signaling cascades that are triggered by T-cell activation, regulates differentiation and proliferation of activated T-cells. Loss of function or expression of the gene has been detected in multiple tumors. The antibody recognizes human annexin A1 amino acids 41 - 118, and specifically inhibits Annexin A1 mediated phospholipid vesicle aggregation.
