This antibody is specific for benzo[a]pyrene, which is an organic compound belonging to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH). Benzo[a]pyrene is one of the isomeric forms of benzopyrene. It comes from certain substances when they are not burned completely

This antibody was used in the development of a sensitive ELISA for the detection of benzopyrene in water. The average IC50 for B[a]P and corresponding detection limit at a signal : noise (S/N) ratio of 3 was 65 ng/L and 24 ng/L. This antibody also cross reacts with chrysene,indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyrene, and benzo[b]fluoranthene (PMID: 15965533).
