The antibody is specific for the insulin receptor. The antibody recognises both short isoform (IR-A) and a long isoform (IR-B). The epitope of the antibody does not overlap with the insulin binding site.

The specificity of the antibody for IR was determined by ELISA analysis. The binding affinity of the antibody to IR-A and IR-B was measured by surface plasmon resonance (Kd= 2.57 and 2.98 nM respectively). The antibody blocked insulin induced IR phosphorylation in a dose-dependent manner on HuH7 cells. The antibody effectively decreased insulin induced glucose uptake at concentrations of 1 nM and 10 nM in vitro. The antibody induced hyperglycemia in C57 mice in in vivo experiments.
