This antibody recognises cysteine-boud N-ethylmaleimide in a sequence-independent manner. It has no affinity for unmodified peptides or peptides modified with other alkylating agents such as iodoacetamide.

OX133 detects NEM-modified proteins and can be used as an affinity matrix to purify NEM-modified proteins from cell lysates. OX133 does not cross react with any other alkylating agent, making it a highly selective reagent for the purification of NEM-labeled proteins and potentially peptides for mass spectrometry-based analysis.
