The antibody binds specifically the S2 subunit of the MERS-CoV spike protein. It shows no cross-reactivity to spike protein of SARS-CoV.

The specificity of this antibody (Fab) was confirmed by ELISA analysis. Immunofluorescence was performed on Vero cells using this antibody (IgG). The binding affinity of the IgG antibody towards MERS-S2P was found to be Kd= 170 pM using surface plasmon resonance. The antibody (IgG) was used as a capture antibody in sandwich ELISA (Kim et al, 2019; pmid: 31544848).
