Auranofin is an inhibitor of thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) with IC50 of 88 nM for purified H. pylori TrxR in cell-free assay. Auranofin has anti-cancer activity and can completely inhibit bacterial growth at 1.2 microM. Auranofin is an FDA-approved gold-containing compound used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
