Cholesterol oxidase (ChOx), a bacterial flavin oxidase containing FAD utilized in biochemical research, catalyzes the oxidation of the C(3)-OH group of cholesterol (and other sterols) to cholest-5-en-3-one and subsequently isomerizes it to cholest-4-en-3-one [1].
