    Rabbit polyclonal to DNMT1.DNA (cytosine-5)-methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) plays a role in methylating CpG residues.Preferentially methylates hemimethylated DNA and regulates tissue-specific patterns of methylatedcytosine residues. During S phase of the cell cycle DNMT1 localizes at replication sites conservingmethylation patterns in the newly synthesized strand, maintaining epigenetic inheritance. During G2and M phases of the cell cycle, DNMT1 associates with chromatin maintaining DNA methylationirrespective of replication. Atypical DNA methylation patterns have been shown to be associated withcertain human tumors and developmental abnormalities.
