Etanercept, a dimeric fusion protein, functions as an inhibitor of TNF by binding to TNF. It competitively blocks the attachment of both TNF-alpha and TNF-beta to their cell surface receptors, thereby neutralizing TNFs biological activity. Etanercept has proven effectiveness in treating rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and plaque psoriasis.
