Scientific Description
The hemagglutinin (HA) protein attaches viral particles to host cells by binding to sialic acid-containing receptors and induces viral particle internalization through clathrin-dependent endocytosis. HA also promotes an alternative clathrin- and caveolin-independent pathway for some virions.
