LK-2 functions as an antagonist to ASIC1a with a dissociation constant (Kd) of 1.9 microM. It effectively reduces the glutamate-induced enhancement of ASIC1a currents, exhibiting an IC50 value of 6.6 microM. In ischemic stroke models in mice, LK-2 demonstrates neuroprotective properties, enhancing motor and coordination abilities. Additionally, LK-2 is permeable to the blood-brain barrier (BBB).
