- Scientific DescriptionLSM3 (LSM3 Homolog, U6 Small Nuclear RNA And MRNA Degradation Associated) is a Protein Coding gene. LSM3 is a member of the snRNP Sm proteins family. It plays role in pre-mRNA splicing as a component of the U4/U6-U5 tri-snRNP complex that is involved in spliceosome assembly, and as a component of the pre-catalytic spliceosome (spliceosome B complex). Sm-like proteins can be detected in a variety of organisms. They all have the Sm sequence motif, which consists of 2 regions separated by a linker of variable length that folds as a loop. The Sm-like proteins are thought to form a stable heteromer present in tri-snRNP particles, which are important for pre-mRNA splicing. Diseases associated with LSM3 include Spondylolysis.
