MAC-545496 is a potent antimicrobial agent against MRSA. It works as a synthetic antibiotic adjuvant, a antivirulence and antibiofilm agent. Potent nanomolar inhibitor of glycopeptide-resistance-associated protein R (GraR), a regulator of the cell-envelope stress response that is an important virulence factor and determinant of antibiotic resistance. Antivirulence compound that reverses beta-lactam resistance in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains. MAC-545496 cripples MRSAs ability to cause infection by diminishing its tolerance to the hostile components of the immune system and blocking the bacteriums capacity to resist the action of several front-line antibiotics. Inhibits biofilm formation and abrogates intracellular survival in macrophages. MAC-545496 targets the bacteria in several different ways, it makes MRSA more susceptible to attack from the immune system, renders it vulnerable to the action of several antibiotics again and reduces the bacterias ability to produce biofilms.
