- Protein IDQ00987
- Protein NameE3 ubiquitin-protein ligase Mdm2
- Scientific DescriptionRabbit polyclonal to MDM2.E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase MDM2 is a target gene of the tumor suppressor p53. MDM2 is a nuclearphosphoprotein that binds and inhibits the transcriptional activity of p53 as part of an autoregulatorynegative feedback loop. Overexpression of MDM2 results in excessive inactivation of p53, diminishingits tumor suppressor function. MDM2 has E3 ubiquitin ligase activity, which targets p53 forproteasomal degradation. MDM2 also affects the cell cycle, apoptosis and tumorigenesis throughinteractions with other proteins, including retinoblastoma 1 and ribosomal protein L5. More than 40different alternatively spliced transcript variants of MDM2 have been isolated from both tumor andnormal tissues.
