Ran (Ras-related nuclear protein, TC4) belongs to the Ras superfamily of GTP binding proteins. It acts in cellular processes such as nuclear transport, mitotic spindle assembly, and post-mitotic nuclear assembly. The mutation E70A results in inhibition of the guanine exchange reaction mediated by RCC1, the guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) for Ran. Protein preparation is 85% GDP-loaded, measured by HPLC.
