BMP-4 is involved in the development and maintenance of bone and cartilage. Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) constitute a subfamily within the TGF-bèta superfamily of structurally related signaling proteins. Measured by its ability to induce ATDC-5 cells to produce alkaline phosphatase, the ED50 is ≤50 ng/mL.
