- Scientific DescriptionHuman Chemerin, also known as Tazarotene induced Gene 2 (TIG2), is an adipokine that regulates adipogenesis, metabolism and inflammation through activation of the chemokine-like receptor 1. Its other ligands include G protein-coupled receptor 1 and chemokine receptor-like 2. Chemerin is expressed in various tissues where its biologically active form is generated by proteolytic removal of C-terminal residues by circulating proteases. In human, the soluble protoform gets processed into a monomeric, heparin binding bioactive molecule that can have both pro- and anti-inflammatory properties depending on the modality of enzymatic cleavage by different classes of proteases.
