- Scientific DescriptionTAFA2 is a member of the CC-chemokine like family of proteins and contain ten conserved cysteine residues at fixed positions. This family of proteins are distantly related to MIP-1-alpha protein. TAFA2 gene is predominantly expressed in the central nervous system with highest expression levels in the occipital and frontal cortex and medulla. TAFA proteins are thought to function as brain specific chemokines; however the biological function of TAFA2 is yet to be determined.
