    Stromal cell-derived factor-1 alfa / CXCL12 (SDF-1alfa) and SDF-1bèta, members of the alfa subfamily of chemokines lacking the ELR domain, were originally identified from mouse bone marrow stromal cell lines using a signal-sequence trap cloning strategy.
