Acyclovir (Aciclovir) is a potent, orally active antiviral agent. Acyclovir has antiherpetic activity with IC 50 values of 0.85 microM and 0.86 microM for HSV-1 and HSV-2 , respectively. Acyclovir induces cell cycle perturbation and apoptosis . Acyclovir prevents bacterial infections during induction therapy for acute leukaemia [1] [2] [3] [4] .
