BMP-8 is a pleiotropic ligand protein act as a reproductive system regulator, enriched in the ovary. BMP-8 is encoded by a pair of genes BMP8A and BMP8B, belonging to TNF-beta family[1]. BMP-8B is secreted by brown/beige adipocytes and enhances energy dissipation, serves as a potential targets in obesity[2]. BMP-8B also caspase-3 and -9 activation in pancreatic cancer cell, as well as decreasing mitochondrial membrane potential to induce apoptosis[3].
