In an attempt to further the understanding of CD1 proteins, flow cytometry was preformed on mouse spleen cells using the rat version of this antibody. Further, mice infected with L. monocytogenes were treated with the rat version of this antibody. Finally, mice spleen cells were stained with the mouse version of this antibody (Szalay et al, 1999; pmid:10358132). To investigate the tissue distribution of murine CD1 in mice, immunohistochemistry was preformed on thymus, small intestine, and spleen tissue of mice using the rat version of this antibody. Further, flow cytometry was preformed on epithelial cells and IEL using the rat version of this antibody (Brassay et al, 1997; pmid:9233616). In order to measure mCD1-restricted T cell responses to glycolipids, the rat version of this antibody was added after which cytokine levels were assessed by ELISA (Burdin et al, 1998; pmid:9759842). To assess the role of CD1 in the pathogenesis of lupus the rat version of this antibody was used for immunofluorescent staining and flow cytometry on single cell suspensions of mouse spleen cells or mouse bone marrow. The mouse version of this antibody was further tested in vivo on mice with lupus. Their lifespan showed an increase (Zeng et al, 2000; pmid:10799851). To study the expression of CD1 on B cell subsets from normal and b2m2/2 mice, single-cell suspensions of lymphoid cells from C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice were used for immunofluorescence using the mouse version of this antibody (Amano et al, 1998; pmid:9712035). To eludicate the location of expression of CD1 flow cytometry was preformed on thymocytes from wild-type, b2m-deficient, and TAP-1-deficient C57BL/6 mice (Roark et al, 1998; pmid:9531266).
