The antibody binds to the E protein of Zika virus. The envelope protein forms a dimer on the smooth surface of the mature virus, and participates in receptor binding and fusion to the host.

The specificity of the scFv format of the antibody was confirmed by ELISA analysis. The antibody detected the recombinant E protein by western blot analysis. The scFv format recognized the E protein in a transfected Vero cell by flow cytometry. Competitive inhibition assay was employed to calculate the percentage of inhibition and the dissociation constant of the antibody against the E protein (inhibition of 50% = 0.55 ug/mL and Kd= 2.04 *10^-8 M). Therefore, the antibody has diagnostic or therapeutic potential for ZIKV (PMID: 31940993).
