The binding strength of the original antibody to poliovirus antigens was determined using surface plasmon resonance (Thys et al., 2011; PMID:21371506). The original antibody was used for a neutralization assay against three types of poliovirus. This antibody showed strong neutralization in type 1 polioviruses. The cytotoxicity of this antibody on HeLa cells was also evaluated. It showed no cytotoxicity (Thys et al., 2010; PMID:20566349). The effect of this antibody on virus entry and uncoating was determined. It showed change in the behavior of the polio particles (Schotte et al., 2014; PMID:24501405). The structure of this antibody was determined using cryo-EM (Strauss et al., 2016; PMID:26764003).
