This original IgG2a rat clone can be used to detect and analyze the presence of perlecan. The specificity towards this protein has been confirmed using immunoprecipitation (Couchman, Ljubimov, 1989; PMID: 2477673). The perlecan was confirmed to reside in the basement membrane by means of immunofluorescence using this antibody (Couchman, Ljubimov, 1989; PMID: 2477673). Immunohistochemical staining confirmed that this clone also cross-reacts with other mammalian creatures (Couchman, Ljubimov, 1989; PMID: 2477673). In addition, one group used western blotting and immunohistochemical staining to detect significant differences in weight and distribution of antibodies across heparan sulfate proteoglycans (Tingboe et al., 2006; PMID: 16459119).
