LTA is a component of the cell wall of Gram-positive bacteria, including Clostridium difficile. While LTA is not typically the primary focus when developing antibodies against Clostridium difficile due to its less prominent role compared to other Gram-positive bacteria, targeting LTA may still help neutralize the pathogen by interfering with its cell wall integrity and function. Antibodies against LTA may also mark the bacteria for destruction by the host immune system.
