Recognises the three surface-exposed loops of the C-terminal domain of OspA that are on the tip of the elongated molecule most distant from the lipid-modified N-terminus. The residues involved in these loops are: 203-220, 224-233, and 246-257.

LA-2 binds to Borrelia Burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease (Borreliosis) has been used in serological analyses of B. burgdorferi isolates by immuno-blotting and immunofluorescence (Kramer et al, 1990). This antibody has also been applied to affinity purification of OspA. This antibody neutralised B. burgdorferi infectivity when passively transferred to SCID mice (Schaible et al, 1990).
