This antibody is capable of recognizing ectromelia virus (ECTV), vaccinia virus (VACV) and cowpox virus (CPXV) in an ELISA. This antibody also neutralized variola virus (VARV) in a plaque reduction neutralization test. This antibody was reported to demonstrate a dose dependent inhibition of plaque formation after infection with VARV, VACV and CPXV. This antibody is also capable of recognizing a 35 kDa protein from ECTV, VARV, VACV, and CPXV and orthopoxvirus, which are encoded by the open reading frames orthologous to the ORF H3L in VACV (PMID: 29427674).
