The antibody binds progesterone and also has less affinity for 5beta and 5alpha-dihydroprogesterone. Progesterone is an endogenous steroid and progestogen sex hormone involved in the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and embryogenesis of humans and other specie

The binding specificity of this antibody towards progesterone, 5beta and 5alpha-dihydroprogesterone and determination of percentage cross reactivity was done using ELISA. It shows an increase in discrimination against 5beta-DHP and 5alpha-DHP, 23-fold and 15-fold, respectively, compared with the parent antibody (PMID: 15878862).
