- Scientific DescriptionSox2 is one of the essential factors regulating mammalian embryonic development. It is of central importance for the acquisition and maintenance of pluripotency. SOX2 is required for multiple steps in formation of the trachea, lung, and esophagus. During these processes, SOX2 is complementarily expressed with other transcription factors, for example, NKX2.1 and SOX9. SOX2 is an oncogene involved in the formation of cancers in the lung and esophagus, but exactly how SOX2 exerts its oncogenic function remains largely unknown.
