The apolipoprotein AI (APOA1) protein is key to reverse cholesterol transport, promoting tissue efflux, and serves as an important cofactor for lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT), promoting cholesterol excretion. As a homodimer, APOA1 is a component of the sperm activating protein complex (SPAP), interacts with APOA1BP, CLU, NDRG1, SCGB3A2, NAXE and YJEFN3, exhibiting multiple molecular associations.
