- Scientific DescriptionThis gene encodes the peptide hormones calcitonin, calcitonin gene-related peptide and katacalcin by tissue-specific alternative RNA splicing of the gene transcripts and cleavage of inactive precursor proteins. Calcitonin is involved in calcium regulation and acts to regulate phosphorus metabolism. Calcitonin gene-related peptide functions as a vasodilator and as an antimicrobial peptide while katacalcin is a calcium-lowering peptide. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Aug 2014]

![Various whole cell extracts (30 μg) were separated by 15% SDS-PAGE, and the membranes were blotted with Procalcitonin antibody [HL3769] (GTX641968) diluted at 1:1000 and competitor's antibody () diluted at 1:. The HRP-conjugated anti-rabbit IgG antibody (GTX213110-01) was used to detect the primary antibody. Corresponding RNA expression data for the same cell lines are based on Human Protein Atlas program. *The competitor is not affiliated with GeneTex and does not endorse this product.](https://www.genetex.com/upload/website/prouct_img/normal/GTX641968/GTX641968_T-45670_20250214_WB_TPM_watermark_25021923_733.webp)
