CD42a/GP9 protein, forming the GPIb-V-IX complex, acts as the von Willebrand factor (vWF) receptor, facilitating vWF-dependent platelet adhesion to blood vessels-a crucial step in arterial hemostasis. The GP-IX component contributes to the membrane insertion and orientation of GP-Ib, forming a non-covalent linkage with the GP-Ib heterodimer composed of two GP-Ib beta subunits and one GP-Ib alpha subunit.
