CD59a Protein acts as a potent inhibitor of the complement membrane attack complex (MAC) by binding to C8 and/or C9 complements during MAC assembly. This interaction prevents the incorporation of multiple C9 copies, crucial for osmolytic pore formation. CD59as regulatory role at the MAC assembly level safeguards cells, preventing uncontrolled osmolytic pore formation and protecting against complement-mediated damage.
