  • Scientific Description
Cadherins are calcium dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types. N-cadherin may be involved in neuronal recognition mechanism. Controls neural tube morphogenesis. Required to allow mid- and hindbrain neurons to reach and maintain their appropriate positions within the neural tube by restricting neuronal motility within the embryonic mid- and hindbrain.
