- Scientific DescriptionNectin (originally isolated as poliovirus related-protein (PRR)) is a cell-cell adhesion molecule of the immunoglobulin supergene family. Nectin is colocalized with afadin at cadherin-based cell-cell adherence junctions in various tissues and cell lines. The nectin/PRR-family, also described as the alpha herpes virus receptor family consists of four members, nectin-1, -2, -3 and -4. All the members of the nectin family have two or three slice variants. For Nectin 3; Nectin 3 alpha, 3 beta and 3 gamma isoforms exist. Both nectin 2 and nectin 3 are ubiquitously expressed whereas nectin 1 is abundantly expressed in brain. Nectin 2 or 3 is expressed in cells where cadherin are mainly expressed in testis and placental tissues. Nectin 3/PRR3 interacts in vivo with both long and short isoforms of afadin.
