Deoxyshikonin was isolated from comfrey Lithospermum erythrorhizon with antitumor activity. Deoxyshikonin increases the expression of VEGF-C and VEGF-A mRNAs in HMVEC-dLy, promotes the interaction of HIF-1alfa and HIF-1bèta subunits, and binds to HIF-specific DNA sequences.
