  • Scientific Description
Chemical. CAS: 24390-14-5. Formula: C22H24N2O8 . HCl . 0.5H2O . 0.5C2H6O. MW: 512.94. Doxycycline hyclate is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic. It binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria and inhibits protein synthesis, preventing bacteria from growing and replicating. Next to its antibacterial activity it shows also anti-inflammatory, anti-protozoal, neuroprotective, anti-viral and anti-cancer properties. Doxycycline also inhibits selective human matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-8, MMP-9, MMP-13), inhibits replication of some viruses, inhibits the apicoplast of the malaria parasite Plasmodium spp. and reduces neuoinflammation. It can be used as a regulator for inducible gene expression systems where expression depends on either the presence (Tet-On) or absence (Tet-Off) of doxycycline. Intermediate for the synthesis of fluorescent probes. - Doxycycline hyclate is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic.
