Galectin-1/LGALS1 protein is a beta-galactoside-binding lectin that regulates apoptosis, cell proliferation, and differentiation by inhibiting CD45 protein phosphatase. It prevents Lyn kinase dephosphorylation, induces T cell apoptosis as a homodimer, and interacts with CD2, CD3, CD4, CD6, CD7, CD43, ALCAM and CD45.
