Guaifenesin (Guaiacol glyceryl ether), a constituent of guaiac resin from the wood of Guajacum officinale Linne, is an expectorant. Guaifenesin can alleviate cough discomfortby increasing sputum volume and decreasing its viscosity, thereby promoting effective cough [1] [2] .
