The ICAM-3/CD50 protein acts as a ligand for the leukocyte adhesion protein LFA-1 and integrin alpha-D/beta-2, suggesting involvement in cell adhesion. ICAM-3 cooperates with integrin alpha-L/beta-2 to facilitate phagocytosis of apoptotic neutrophils, suggesting a role in immune response regulation and apoptotic cell clearance.
