Large envelope protein

The large envelope protein has two conformations: external (Le-HBsAg) and internal (Li-HBsAg). In its external state, it mediates viral attachment, initiates infection, determines species specificity, and promotes viral particle internalization via caveolin-mediated endocytosis.
