The LOX-1/OLR1 protein is a receptor on vascular endothelial cells that promotes the recognition, internalization, and degradation of oxidatively modified low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL). This process is indicative of atherosclerosis and triggers endothelial cell activation, pro-inflammatory responses, oxidative conditions, and apoptosis.
