Myristyl sulfobetaine is an amphoteric detergent with both hydrophilic and hydrophobic portions, which has good descaling properties and is commonly used for solubilization and purification of membrane-bound proteins and other hydrophobic biomolecules, as well as for experimental operations such as electrophoresis and chromatography.
