The Nogo receptor/NgR protein functions as a multifunctional receptor for RTN4, OMG, and MAG, expanding its recognition to include the sialylated gangliosides GT1b and GM1, chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans, and heparin. NGFR coreceptor activation initiates Rho-mediated reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton, resulting in inhibition of axonal growth.
