PDK1 protein is a key kinase that controls glucose and fatty acid metabolism by phosphorylating pyruvate dehydrogenase subunits PDHA1 and PDHA2. This molecular switch inhibits pyruvate dehydrogenase, fine-tunes metabolite flux and downregulates aerobic respiration.
