  • Scientific Description
Rabbit polyclonal to PIAS1.E3 SUMO-protein ligase PIAS1 is a member of the mammalian PIAS (protein inhibitor of activatedSTAT-1 (signal transducer and activator of transcription-1)) family, which contains a putative zincbindingmotif and a highly acidic region. PIAS1 functions as an E3-type small ubiquitin-like modifier(SUMO) ligase, stabilizing the interaction between UBE2I and the substrate, and as a SUMOtetheringfactor. PIAS1 plays a crucial role as a transcriptional coregulation in various cellularpathways, including the STAT pathway, the p53 pathway and the steroid hormone signaling pathway. In vitro, PIAS1 binds A/T-rich DNA. The effects of the transcriptional coregulation, transactivation orsilencing, may vary depending upon the biological context.
