Transforming Growth Factors (TGFs) are multifunctional peptides that regulate growth and differentiation in most cell types. The TGF-? family of proteins signal through serine/threonine kinase receptors. TGF-? isoforms (TGF-?1, -? 2, and -? 3) have overlapping, yet distinct biological actions in developing and adult tissues. TGF-?2 demonstrates cross-species reactivity. TGF-?2may have an autocrine function in enhancing tumour growth by supressing immunosurveillance of tumour development.
