- Scientific DescriptionChemical. CAS: 51-05-8. Formula: C13H20N2O2 . HCl. MW: 272.77. Synthetic. Procaine is a sodium channel blocker, commonly used as an anesthetic agent and a variety of other inhibitiory effects. It is also useful as a painkiller to prevent or relieve pain for short periods, such as during dental procedures. In skeletal muscle, Procaine has been reported to inhibit calcium-induced calcium release (CICR) and to inhibit nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. It has been shown to be a DNA methylation inhibitor with anti-tumor activity. Inhibited also HERG channels. Can be used as an analytical reference compound, since procaine is used as an adulterant in illicit drugs. - Procaine is a sodium channel blocker, commonly used as an anesthetic agent and a variety of other inhibitiory effects.
